Steve Pitts
Native to the Tampa Bay area, Steve Pitts and his wife Sarah Romanel are the owner/operators of Steve’s World of Golf. Steve has spent the past 27 years of his life owning one of the largest golf store chains in the state of Florida. At one time during the peak of the golf retail industry, Steve owned and operated 5 of the best retail stores in the Tampa Bay area, including an 8,000 sq. ft. store/warehouse on US 19 in Clearwater, FL.
After his two daughters finished their golf careers in high school, they moved away to fulfill their dreams in college. Steve figured he had fulfilled his fatherly duties and was going to retire at the age of fifty-three. Then the country’s economy started to take a wrong turn and ended in a recession. He started thinking back to a famous quote, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” He started thinking of ways to help the golf industry. He noticed that most of the local courses could not financially stock their own Pro Shops. Let’s face it, if all the golf courses closed, then there would be no need for golf retail stores.
That is when he decided on his mission statement. “Before I pass away someday, I don’t want to be remembered for being some guy with one of the largest golf store chains for three decades. I want to be remembered for being the guy who started the way of the future for these golf courses. I want to bring all the customers back to their local green grass Pro Shop to support the golf industry as a whole. I plan on opening 25-50 green grass Pro Shops here in the Tampa Bay area. It is similar to the idea of a Subway shop inside of a Hess station. Somebody had to start it.”
